Dear Friends of Nebraska Wrestling:

As we begin our 100th year of Wrestling at the University of Nebraska, we have some exciting times ahead that will add to the history of our program.

First of all, we have four former Husker All-Americans on our staff (Bryan Snyder, Jason Powell, Brandon Browne, and Craig Brester).  These young men, coupled with Tony Ersland, make up a staff that is committed to excellence on and off the mat.  Together, we hope to build on last year’s accomplishments which saw our team finish with the 3rd highest team G.P.A. in Division I Wrestling -- Harvard, American, Nebraska (3.3), Duke, Davidson, Stanford, Northwestern, Columbia, Utah Valley St, and Sacred Heart.  So, while we might not have been the toughest at some weight classes, we were smart!  But, in all seriousness, this demonstrates the discipline and commitment our young men make on a daily basis.

We recently found out that the Athletic Department has made some changes regarding Booster Clubs and the control and operation of them.  For example, the Athletic Department now owns Husker Authentic which will now sell apparel at all home Husker athletic events.  Therefore, after visiting with Coach Osborne and the Athletic Development Department, we have their support to now have all Husker Wrestling fans and alumni support our local sports club.  Many of you may ask, “what is a local sports club?”  Our local sports club now named, Nebraska Wrestling Training Center, is a charitable organization (501-C3) which supports our volunteer coaches, administrative assistant and any freestyle/Greco-Roman athlete training here at Nebraska.  We also run high school/junior high and elementary age training sessions for the youth to grow and develop into future wrestlers.  In addition to helping fund volunteers and future wrestlers who have aspirations to compete internationally; this will allow the Nebraska Wrestling Training Center (NWTC) to do socials at our home meets, as well as at the Big 12/Big 10 and NCAA Tournaments.

By supporting the Nebraska Wrestling Training Center, you will be providing opportunities for our program to have young men like Brandon Browne and Craig Brester work out in our room on a daily basis.  This will also allow us to be able to bring in other freestyle wrestlers to train within our program.  Our young men gain the value of the old adage of “steel sharpens steel”.  We need everyone’s support and the pride within the “Nebraska Wrestling (Family) Nation” in order for us to compete for Big 12/Big 10 and NCAA Championships.

Your generous donation will allow our program to grow and provide opportunities for young men.   With a new wrestling facility on the horizon for the Fall of 2011, we need your financial gift in order to compete for championships.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our meets and NCAA tournament.  Please contact Jason Powell at jpowell@huskers.com by September 22, 2010 if you want to order NCAA Wrestling tickets in the Husker section.

Thank you for being a part of the Husker Family!

Sincerely,

Mark Manning

P.S.  To clarify:  If you have been an annual donor to the Husker Booster Club in the past, your continued contribution to the NWTC will be even more beneficial to the success of our program.

Dear Friends of Nebraska Wrestling:

Wrestling season is right around the corner and the team is vigorously preparing for the year!

Some of you may have heard that the Husker Wrestling Booster Club is no longer in existence.  The Athletic Development office has changed some things regarding booster clubs, so we’ve decided to just support the Nebraska Wrestling Training Center (NWTC).

What is the Nebraska Wrestling Training Center?  It is a recently developed non-profit (501-C3) organization.  The NWTC serves as our club for our Freestyle/Greco-Roman programs for college/high school/junior high and youth throughout this region of the country.  Our club has practices/training offered for the different age groups and also, provides Nebraska Wrestling with the means to support our volunteer Coach, Brandon Browne (2X Big 12 champion/2X All American), our Administrative Assistant, Craig Brester (3X All American/Big 12 champion) as well as any future Husker/collegiate athlete who wants to train here at Nebraska for International (World/Olympic) competition.

We need your support in order to take our program to the next level.  So, if you have donated in the past to the Booster Club, please just direct your contribution to the NWTC as a way to support our club.

Our former board members, Tim Miers, Brett Ray, Tracey Olnhausen, Mike and Linda Hill, Roger Kolar and Terry Sindelar will still organize NCAA tickets, rooms, and socials after events.  Tracy Olnhausen will correspond by email and connect with our staff in order to meet your needs.

We greatly appreciate your contribution and loyalty to Husker Wrestling!

Thank you for following the Huskers.

Sincerely,

Mark Manning

P.S.  If you want to give $25 or $50, please feel free to join at that level.  Please see attachment, and make checks payable to Nebraska Wrestling Training Center.
